CANA MARKS ARMENIAN GENOCIDE REMEMBRANCE DAY

NEW YORK— The Cyprus Action Network of America (CANA) stands with Armenians around the world — in commemorating April 24, the international day of remembrance for the Armenian Genocide initiated by the Ottoman Turkish Empire and continued into the nationalist era of Kemalist Turkey against the Armenian people.

Henry Morgenthau, the U.S. Ambassador to the Ottoman Empire at the time of the atrocities wrote--“I am confident that the whole history of the human race contains no such horrible episode as this. The great massacres and persecutions of the past seem almost insignificant when compared with the sufferings of the Armenian race in 1915.”

This genocidal campaign, perpetrated by Turkey, resulted in the murder of the ancient civilizations of Armenians, Assyrians, Pontian Hellenes and Hellenes of Asia Minor. By 1923, the Armenian population in the entire land mass of Asia Minor and historic West Armenia was expunged of its native population of Armenians

CANA joins with the Armenian people in solemn remembrance of the Armenian Genocide of 1915, and reaffirms a commitment by Hellenic-Americans of conscience who, for many years, remain determined, to secure full recognition and justice for Turkey’s crimes.

The Armenian Genocide has been formally acknowledged by the Hellenic Republic and the Republic of Cyprus   and by 40 U.S. States and 11 NATO allies.
